Dorris Florence Moger Hoyle
( April 14, 1923 - March 21, 2015 )
Dorris Florence Moger Hoyle, age 91, of 1333 Nature Preserve Trail in Denver, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Killian officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born April 14, 1923, in Valhalla, NY, met her husband of 55 years, Marcus Hal Hoyle, Jr. when he was stationed with the U.S. Navy in New York harbor. After the war they moved to Lincolnton, NC.
Dorris enjoyed working in flower and vegetable gardens, sewing and cooking. She loved all the beauties of nature and animals, especially the sheep they raised. Dorris was active for many years in the Democrat party and Girl Scouting. She volunteered for the Blood Mobile, Christian Ministries, Meals on Wheels, Community Based Alternatives Board, and served on the State Board of Education for Exceptional Children. One of her favorite volunteer activities was working with the N.C. Guardian ad Litem program. For many years, she was a member of Lincolnton’s First United Methodist Church and later Denver United Methodist Church, ELBA, and the Denver Arts Council.
With her many friends Dorris enjoyed bridge, book club, dinner club, church circle meetings, and entertaining at home.
In addition to her interest in genealogy, she loved traveling, boating on Lake Norman, and going to her mountain condo. Her favorite mountain memories included Art in the Park weekends in Blowing Rock and visits to the Crossnore School, “Mountains of Hope for Children in Need.”
In 1998 Dorris was able to fulfill a long time dream of sending her grandchildren on a European tour.
Dorris was preceded in death by son Marcus Hal Hoyle, III, and husband Marcus Hal Hoyle, Jr.
She is survived by a son, Warren and wife Donna, their children Jason, Jeff, and Shelley Miller and their families; daughter Miriam Cline and husband Don, their daughters Jamie Sidler and Heather McGhee and their families; son Wayne and wife Lisa, their children Adam and Katie; ten great-grandchildren; brother Harvey Moger and wife Carol, their four sons and their families.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice, to the Crossnore School, Inc., 100 DAR Drive, Crossnore, NC 28616, or to Catawba Regional Hospice, Sherrills Ford Unit, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
The family would like to thank the staff of Catawba Regional Hospice for their care.
