James Hoke Norman
( April 10, 1928 - February 28, 2015 )
James Norman died on February 28.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  He was a Christian and long time member of New Heights Baptist church.

James, also called Pebo by his family and many of his friends, was born April 10, 1928 to the late James H. Norman, Sr. and Michel Gibson Norman.   He grew up in Henrietta, NC during the great depression with his four brothers and his mom and dad.  He worked hard and learned the value of a dollar early in his life.  He left home when he was fifteen years old to work in the textile mill in High Shoals, NC.  There he met Velma Beam.  He and Velma married at 17 and were happily married for 60 years at the time of Velma's death in 2005.

He was always motivated to better himself in order to better provide for his family.  While working, he attended and graduated from the North Carolina Vocational Textile School in Belmont, NC and obtained his GED from Gaston College.   He retired from Burlington Industries as Superintendent of Opening, Carding, and Spinning in 1990.

After retirement in 1990, James and Velma bought a vacation home at Sunset Beach.   They enjoyed many happy times at the "Norman's Retreat" with family and friends.

James enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.  He traveled with Velma often accompanied by Velma's sisters and brothers and their spouses.  James also went on many extended trips with his four brothers.  He and his brothers loved each other dearly and cherished their times together.

James was his happiest when he was with family and friends either celebrating holidays or birthdays, traveling, or just visiting.  To him, the more the merrier.  He was a friend to all.

James is survived by sons, Ron of Denver and Roger of Raleigh and his wife Sylvia, grandson Bart Norman of Cary, NC and his wife Cathy, great-grandsons Eli and Sam, brother Ralph and his wife Linda, sister-in-law Geraldine Norman, and many nieces and nephews.   Pre-deceasing him are his wife, Velma, and brothers Clark, Jay, and Raymond and infant sister, Irene.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Flowers may be delivered to Warlick Funeral Home or donations may be made to Hospice House of Huntersville, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078 or New Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 60, Dallas, N.C. 28034.
