Nelta Alene Ward Barber
( October 17, 1928 - February 24, 2015 )
Nelta Alene Ward Barber, age 86, of Lincolnton, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at the Levine Dickson Hospice House at SouthMinister in Charlotte, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in the Russells Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Kathy McAbee officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.

Ms. Barber was born October 17, 1928, in Lincoln County, to the late James Forest and Loree McCaslin Ward. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Randy Keever.

She was a 1945 graduate of Union High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, BETA Club, Drama Club, 4H Club, Glee Club and enjoyed playing basketball for her school. She worked in the administrative office at Duplin Corporation and later retired from Rhyne Mills as an accounting secretary. She loved the Rhyne family and worked for them for 35 years.

Nelta enjoyed dancing in her younger years, exercising, spending time with family, spent numerous hours on the phone checking on her friends and was a true lover of trivia games. She was an amazing advocate for her family and friends, always assisting them with any issues or problems that may arise in their life. She had that “can do, will do” attitude in life and always went the extra mile to complete a project. She was a member of the Rhyne Heights Methodist Church in Lincolnton and was a past Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianne K. Heavner and husband Mike of Surfside Beach, SC; two sisters, Inez Rhyne of Gastonia and Faye Stroupe of Vale; a brother, Dean Ward and wife Saundra of Boger City; five granddaughters, Kimberly Beam and husband Blair of Cherryville, Hope Riggins and husband David of Charlotte, Angela Sommers and husband David of Australia, Jennifer Yount and husband Art of Cherryville, Julie DeSa and husband Marcio of Lake Wylie, SC; and nine great-grandchildren, Grant Beam, Taylor and Eric Yount, Luke, Nate, and Eli DeSa, Taylor, Naomi, and Tamara Sommers and several nieces and nephews that she adored.
