Francis Joseph Herzing, Jr.
( September 13, 1942 - November 30, 2014 )

Mr. Francis Joseph Herzing, Jr., age 72, of Arden Drive in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, November 30, 2014, after a short, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 537 NC 16 Business in Denver, with Father Carmen Malacari officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. A celebration of Fran’s life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held at a later date in St. Marys, PA.

Fran was born September 13, 1942, in St. Marys, PA to the late Francis J. Herzing, Sr. and Helen Fedorko Herzing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a godchild, Paul Hasselman. He served in the United States Army and then married Alice Hasselman, his soulmate and best friend, on August 27, 1966. Fran worked for Stackpole Carbon Company, Vermont American Tool Corporation, and then retired from Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening, and hosting parties with Alice. Fran was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus - Holy Spirit Council 10389, and the Knights of Columbus – Michael J. Sabella Assembly #2417, where he was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Alice H. Herzing of the home; a brother, Steve Herzing (Joanne) of St. Marys, PA; a sister, Sister Susan Herzing of Erie, PA; a nephew, Scott Herzing (Julie) of Erie, PA; a great-nephew, Christian Herzing of Erie, PA; and two godchildren, Molly Uberti of Force, PA and Andrew Lidman of Lincolnton, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund, 537 NC 16 Business, Denver, NC 28037, or to the Knights of Columbus, Lamb Foundation of North Carolina, 137 Cross Center Road, PMB 305, Denver, NC 28037.
