Lona (Coney) Sherrill Helton, age 83, of 4950 Hunter Rhyne Road in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Pumpkin Center with Rev. Roger Reckling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helton was born March 28, 1931, in Lincoln County to the late Leona Rebecca Sherrill. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Leroy Helton, and a brother, Perry Duncan.

She is survived by a son, Roy Helton and wife Cindy; daughter, Rhonda Hester and husband Eli; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Davis of Conover, Lorene Childers and husband Gray of Newton, Dorothy Kepley and husband Tommy of Salisbury, Linda Corpening and husband Al of Mt. Holly; and two brothers, Clyde Duncan and wife Alice of Conover, and James Duncan and wife Shasta of Maiden.

Lona has been a real trooper through life fighting debilitating medical conditions since 1986. She was a strong family person loving her family and the Lord. She will leave a long legacy of hard work and integrity for her family to live up to. She will truly be missed by all.
