Gerlene Chapman Helms
( December 7, 1935 - October 8, 2014 )

Gerlene Helms, age 78 years young, of Brian Center in Lincolnton, and formerly of Southside Road, went home to be with the Lord and her family in heaven on October 8, 2014.

 

Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Ingle, Rev. Darrell Bost, and Rev. Brad Philbeck officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

 

Born December 7, 1935, to the late Henry Lee and Blanche Matthews Chapman in Lincoln county, she lived and worked in Lincolnton her whole life. Gerlene enjoyed her work in the healthcare profession and later in life as a homemaker for her and her husband of 45 years. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church until her illnesses prevented her attendance. She was a devoted wife and a loving sister and aunt. Gerlene always had a smile to greet you when you visited her. Active in outside activities and events, she enjoyed fishing, biking, and games with the nieces and nephews making her one of their favorites to visit. Gerlene also loved to host family parties and dinners, giving her a chance to share her wonderful cooking skills.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Helms, Jr and her brother, Jack Hugh Chapman.

 

Left to cherish her memory are a brother, William “Bill” Lee Chapman and wife Marabel; one sister, Louise Chapman Owens Pope; and many loving nieces and nephews.
