Ruth Goodnight Dellinger
( February 17, 1923 - September 6, 2014 )

Ruth Goodnight Dellinger, of Charlotte and formerly of Vale, passed away peacefully from an extended illness on Saturday, September 6, 2014 with her loved ones by her side.  She was 91.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. William Kanupp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Ruth was born in Henry, NC on February 17, 1923, to Charlie and Texie Leonard Goodnight.  She was the youngest of ten children.  Both of her parents passed away while she was still a child and she was raised by her older sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Fitzhugh Kiser, on their farm in Henry.  As a young adult Ruth worked for a short while as a librarian at Union School in Vale, NC and later in a hosiery mill in Hickory.  While working in Hickory she met her lifelong love and husband, Chesley Y. Dellinger, Jr.  Ruth and Chesley were married 70 wonderful years.

A homemaker most of her life, Ruth (Nonnie) loved nothing more than caring for her family, children and grandchildren.  During Chesley’s U.S. Naval career, she faithfully followed taking children and household to wherever he was assigned.  He often called her his “little tag along girl.”  After his retirement they enjoyed traveling together.  Ruth was a skilled seamstress, who enjoyed gardening, preparing delicious meals, and visiting with her friends, and family.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a beautiful lady who never complained, even while battling a disease for many years.  She will never be forgotten and will always be in the hearts of those who loved her.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Chesley, and their four children, daughter Judy Myhre (Bob) and their children Katie and Rick (Elena)) and their son (Bobby); son Ken (Connie) and their children Amanda, Derek, and Jessica; daughter Jane Haar (Steve) and their daughter Samantha and step-daughter Jeanie; and son Bob and his children Alexandra and Bobby; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210-7610 or to Corinth Baptist Church, 7929 W. NC 10 Hwy, Vale, NC 28168.
