Obituaries

Leila Wise Carpenter, age 97, of the Heath House in Lincolnton, and formerly of 4732 Reepsville Road in Vale, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at Daniels Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday in the church sanctuary.

Mrs. Carpenter was born September 21, 1916, in Lincoln County, to the late Evan and Prue Gilbert Wise. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Frank Y. Carpenter, a sister, and two brothers. She worked as a hosiery inspector.

She is survived by two sons, Marshall Dean Carpenter and wife Janice of Vale and James F. Carpenter and wife Ovilla of Auburn, AL; six grandchildren, Lynn Thompson of Wilson, NC, Mike Carpenter of Sammamish, WA, Laurie Heavner of Lincolnton, NC, Bruce Carpenter of Birmingham, AL, Amy Watson of Gainesville, FL and Bennett Carpenter of Auburn, AL; and seven great-grandchildren.
