Obituaries

Betty Jean Carpenter Caldwell, age 84, of 514 Victory Grove Church Road in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in the Hulls Grove Baptist Church – North cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Betty Jean was born July 6, 1929, in Lincoln County to the late Samuel Thomas Carpenter, Sr. and Emma Elizabeth Rhyne Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Lee Caldwell, Jr., three brothers, Sam Carpenter, Ernest Carpenter, and Jerry Carpenter, and one sister, Dorothy Martin. She retired from Nitso and enjoyed working in her flowers and gardening.

She is survived by a son, D. Michael Caldwell and wife Annette of Lincolnton; a daughter, Vada N. Mosteller and husband Steve of Vale; one brother, John Carpenter of Lincolnton; and three sisters, Minnie Houk of Charlotte, Audrie Smith of Salisbury, and Ruth Gillenwater of Charlotte.
