Steven Tyler Martin
( September 27, 1946 - May 12, 2014 )

Mr. Steven Tyler Martin, age 67, of 2377 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Crouse died Monday, May 12, 2014.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 in the Snow Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Danbury, NC with Rev. Gene Bruce and Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. 

 

Mr. Martin was born on September 27, 1946 in Stuart, VA and was the son of the late Samuel Maurice Martin.  He was a real estate developer.

 

In 1968 Steve was named First-Team All-ACC, All American by Collegiate Baseball and the ABCA, First-Team TOPPS District 3 All-Star, and All-State by the Greensboro Daily Record.  He set school records with 47 hits and 35 runs scored in 1968, leading NC State’s 1968 College World Series team in batting average, base hits, runs scored, RBI’S, doubles, triples, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.  He led the ACC in runs scored in 1968 and was named team captain in 1969.  He was inducted into the North Carolina State Baseball Hall of Fame 2009-2010.

 

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Cecelia Allran Martin of the home; one daughter, Ann Michele Martin, MD of Raleigh; one son, William R. Warren and wife, Nori of Columbia, SC: his mother, Rachel Lawson Martin of Crouse; one brother, Larry M. Martin and wife, Beth of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Tyler Buckley and Evan Buckley of Raleigh.  He leaves behind his beloved dogs, Chloe and Choc.
