Clinard Elliott "Bud" Coffey
( September 9, 1936 - April 6, 2014 )

Clinard Elliott “Bud” Coffey, age 77, of 1853 Cameron Road in Lincolnton passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 6, 2014, with his loving family by his side.

 

A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the David Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lewis Lowery officiating. A Southern Gospel singing service will be announced at a later date.

 

Mr. Coffey was born in Lincoln County, NC to the late Clinard and Bryte Beal Coffey. Bud was a lifelong resident of Lincolnton. Bud spent his youth on the mill hill at Rhodes Rhyne in Lincolnton and always took pride that he lived there and learned many of lifes lessons while growing up there. He attended Lincolnton High School, but always said he was a graduate of the “school of hard knocks.” Bud was well-known for his truly great sense of humor and his beautiful singing voice. He sang praises to God for over 40 years. He sang with the Song Masters and the Southerner’s Quartets. Bud retired from the NC Department of Corrections after more than 30 years of service. He was an avid Carolina Panther and UNC Tarheel fan. He also loved watching NASCAR racing and listening to the Cathedrals Quartet.

 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Sue Davis Coffey; two sons, Kevin (Lanelle) Coffey and Jeff (Anna) Coffey; a daughter, Sue Ellen (Coffey) Ingle; grandchildren, Brent (Nicole) Coffey, Abbey Coffey, Brooke Owens, John (Susan) Coffey, Jeremy Coffey, Taren (David) Caldwell, Kyle (Megan) Coffey, Phillip (June) Franklin, Jackie (Shane) Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Cadon Hull, Brennen Godfrey, Tyler Owens, Allysa Owens, Cecile Coffey, Ryleigh Boggs and Mikayla Godfrey; sister, Shirley Bailey; niece, Kimberly Thomas Kimbell; nephews, Greg and Leslie Davis and Tommy Thomas; sister-in-law, Peggy Davis Thomas of Chesapeake, VA; and special friends, Roby Jetton and Ronnie and Nickie Avery.
