Sue Ballard Ross Campbell
( June 2, 1939 - March 13, 2014 )

Sue “Susie” Ballard Ross Campbell, 74, of 7615 Sedgebrook Dr. E., Stanley, NC passed away March 13, 2014 at Carillon Assisted Living where she was lovingly cared for the past several months.  Born in Lincoln County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Jennie Ballard; three brothers, Jim, Arnold and Floyd; one sister, Elizabeth Ballard.

She is survived by a dedicated, loving family including her husband, Bob Campbell of the home; two daughters, Janet Ross Hoffman of Denver, NC, Sandi Ross Poole and husband Mark also of Denver; two grandchildren, Ryan Hoffman and Lynsey Waddle and husband Ryan, and great grandchild Paisley Waddle, all of Denver, and step-grandson Brandon Poole, wife Leigha and son Marcus, of Huntersville.  Susie is also survived by one brother, Charlie Ballard of Lincolnton; two sisters, Helen Robinson of Iron Station and Dorothy  Lawing of Denver.  Surviving also are three step-daughters, Gina Gunter and husband Charles of Huntersville, Sherri Pannell and husband Robert of Harrisburg and Terri Campbell of Lewisville, Texas; step-grandchildren Coleman and Russell Pannell, Sara and Emily Gunter, and Hayden and Hunter Phillips.

Susie was a graduate of Rock Springs High School and a retiree from Harris-Teeter in Lincolnton after 33 years of loyal service, and with her cheerful personality was well liked by all.  Susie was a special mom to her daughters and grandchildren as they were growing up, guiding them with encouragement, support and an  enduring love that only grew stronger in their adult life, enjoying precious times together.

She and Bob were married in December of 2000 and lived in the Denver area.  They were thrilled to be starting a life together, each with a new extended family that they both cared for deeply.

Susie was an excellent cook, enjoyed golf and playing games.  She loved to travel with Bob, theater productions,  concerts, and just sitting in the sun with her family.  Susie loved God, church and family dearly.  For many years Susie was a faithful member at Boger City Baptist Church but in more recent years had joined Lake Norman Baptist with Bob.  Susie was a kind, compassionate and generous person with a bright, winning smile, an engaging sense of humor and a quiet, gentle spirit that drew people to her.  Losing her leaves a big void in our hearts forever.  There is comfort now in knowing she is in her heavenly home in the presence of Jesus and now has been eternally healed.

Funeral services to celebrate Susie’s life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2:00 at Boger City Baptist Church, 2201 East Main St., Lincolnton with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating.  The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 12 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service.  Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks for the excellent, loving care Susie received from the kind, professional staffs of Carillon Assisted Living and Hospice of Lincoln County.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dorita Drive, Lincoln, NC 28092.
