Ruth Cash Stroup
( October 10, 1925 - February 5, 2014 )

Ruth Cash Stroup, age 88, of Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.

 

Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 pm in the North wing of the church.

 

Ruth was born October 10, 1925, in Lincoln County to the late Matt and Prue Abernethy Cash.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Paul Stroup, three brothers, and two sisters.

 

Ruth, and her husband Paul, operated their business together that was known as Stroup’s Soda Shop and later became known as Stroup’s Jewelers. Her hobbies included her love of fishing, especially at Chetola Lake in Blowing Rock, where she claimed her “own” fishing bench under the trees. She was an avid gardener, who could make anything grow from flowers to vegetables. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed many years of participating in the growing up years of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

She is survived by a daughter, Paulette Rudisill and husband Rudy of Lincolnton; a son, Joe Stroup and wife Janice of Lincolnton; a sister, Christine Morris of Conover; five grandchildren, David Byrd and wife Angie of Lincolnton, Paul Byrd and wife Jennifer of Lincolnton, Josh Stroup and wife Leanna of Lincolnton, Joel Stroup of Lincolnton, and Caleb Stroup of Grinnell, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren.

 

She also leaves behind many friends and family from her church, her clubs, and her friends at Carillon Assisted Living and Stroup’s Jewelers.
