James "Jim" Henry Leatherman
( November 10, 1926 - September 5, 2013 )

James “Jim” Henry Leatherman, age 86, died peacefully on September 5, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Lincolnton.  He was a local barber from 1948 until 2012, a total of 64 years.

 

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Conder and Rev. Malcolm Lerch officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Jim was a WWII Army veteran T5 Co.M 2nd Regt.  He traveled aboard the USS General Wm. Weigel to the invasion of Japan. 

 

James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Maxine Martin Leatherman, a son, Larry James Leatherman, his parents, Lawrence F. Leatherman and Annie White Leatherman, brothers John Lethermon of Gastonia and William Leatherman of Lincolnton.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Froneberger and husband Gary of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Diane D. Leatherman of Lincolnton; a granddaughter, Marie Schoen and husband Joe Schoen of Frisco, TX; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Carson: one brother, Charles “Bud” Leatherman of West Palm Beach, FL; two sisters, Nancy Leatherman Davis and Louise Leatherman Barkley of Lincolnton; niece Linda B. Hoyle; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

 

Jim was a faithful member of McKendree Church, the American Legion, “Last Man’s Club” of WWII veterans of which he was the commander, and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to McKendree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 426, Lincolnton, NC 28093.
