John Lewis Parker

Mr. John Lewis Parker, age 90, of 7045 Startown Road in Maiden, died on Thursday, July 4, 2013.


His funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Cherryville with Rev. Jonathan Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Parker was born November 22, 1922 in Gaston County to the late Ernest Reid and Cordie Wright Parker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Caudill Parker, brothers Hoyt Parker and Reid Parker, and a sister, Lois Graham. He served in the United States Army during World War II and then, after discharge, founded Maiden Amusement Company. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and Moose Lodge.

 

He is survived by two sons, Ronald Parker and wife Lisa and James Parker and wife Julie, all of Newton; three daughters, Janice Parker of Maiden, Debra Prahl and husband Randy of Berlin, WI, and Lisa Moore and husband Ryan of Newton; four brothers, Clinton Parker and wife Esther of Rockingham, Ray Parker and wife Anna of Lincolnton, Stowe Parker and wife Patricia of Gastonia, and Dr. Blaine Parker and wife Harriett of Lexington, KY; two sisters, Evelyn Leatherman and husband John of Lincolnton and Edna Brendle and husband John of Cherryville; twelve grandchildren, Dalton Jordan, McKenna Parker, Jennifer Prahl, Sarah Robertson, Hannah Prahl, Brittany Wright, Faith Moore, Kasey Parker, Karson Parker, Kiley Parker, Macie Parker, and Luke Parker; and six great-grandchildren.
