Obituaries

Mr. Lester Junior Burgess, age 76, of 5154 Roy Ballard Street in Denver, died on Friday, May 31, 2013.

His funeral service will be 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Ramsey and Rev. Macon Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.  Visitation will be 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Burgess was born June 22, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late James Lester and Verona Sherrill Burgess.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ward Burgess, a daughter, Brenda Burgess Dameron, one brother, Hobert Ervin Burgess, and a sister, Clafton Kathleen “Polly” Burgess.  He worked for Cronland Wrap and Roll.

He is survived by four sons, John Lester Burgess, Jerry Lee Burgess, Robert Junior Burgess, all of Denver and Michael Von Burgess of Lincolnton; six brothers, Charles Ray Burgess of Denver, James Edmond Burgess of Maiden, Harold Lee Burgess, Wayne David Burgess, Boyd Eugene Burgess, and Darrell Ellis Burgess, all of Denver; two sisters, Vinnie Burgess Goodson of Hickory and Carolyn Burgess Doolittle of Denver; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
