Jerry Eugene Lovingood, Sr.
( March 21, 1939 - April 23, 2013 )

Jerry Eugene “Cherokee” Lovingood, Sr., age 74 of 3089 Charmwood Lane in Iron Station, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.

 

His funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013 in the Hudson Chapel of Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte.  Entombment will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 pm in the Hudson Chapel prior to the service.

 

Born March 21, 1939 in Mooresville, he was the son of the late Levi Norcutt and Cordin Lovingood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ashley and Kyle Roland and a son-in-law, Buddy Crane. He graduated from NMHS in 1957. During his high school years, he was affectionately known as “Cherokee.” He was a member of the West Gate Masonic Lodge in Charlotte, NC. Jerry was a long-term manager at Charlotte Ford Tractor and retired from the City of Charlotte.  One of his proudest achievements was earning a 3rd Degree black belt in Aikido which was issued from the University of Toyko. He was an avid outdoorsman which included hunting, fishing and golf. Mr. Lovingood was a member of Chapman Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte.

 

He is survived by a son, Jerry E. “Chip” Lovingood, Jr. and wife Tress of Iron Station; daughters, Teri Lovingood Chilson and husband Kelly and Kay Lovingood Crane, all of Denver, Rhonda Lovingood Roland and husband Karl of Mebane, and Dee Dee Lovingood Clark and husband Mitch of Charlotte; one sister, Hazel Lovingood Whitley and husband Terrell of Albemarle; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC  29605.
