Vickie Link Sides
( September 9, 1943 - April 15, 2013 )

Vickie Link Sides, age 69, of Lincolnton, died on Monday, April 15, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Covenant Bible Church with Rev. Doug McClain and Rev. Keith Chronister officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 pm on Sunday prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Sides was born September 9, 1943 in Lincoln County to the late Kenneth Kee and Pauline Sigmon Link. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roney Leroy Sides, a sister, Robin Link, and grandparents Hugh and Jessie Sherrill Link and George and Kate Goodman Sigmon.  She was a graduate of Lincolnton High School and was the first female rural letter carrier at the Vale post office where she worked for 19 years.  She also was the author of the book “Vickie’s Story, My Cancer Journey.”

She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Sides Rumple and husband Randy Alan of Whitsett, NC; a son, Gregory Link Sides and wife Johnna of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Julianna Sides, Madeline Sides, Natalie Sides, and Landon Rumple; one sister, Wanda Dellinger and husband Larry; two brothers, Ken Link and wife Thresia and Scott Link and wife Pam, all of Lincolnton; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and Sides’ relatives.

Vickie enjoyed vacation time at the beach with family, gardening, writing, and singing in her choir.  She provided encouragement and inspiration to all those she met along her faith journey. She trusted in God to provide the miracle of life all while accomplishing His plans. The verse that provided a constant beacon of encouragement was Jeremiah 29:11; “For I know that plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Vickie knew God would go beyond what she could ever ask or think and His plan was the only plan to fulfill. “My affairs are in order; the most important being where I will spend eternity with my Jesus.”

Thank you to our family and friends for all the love, prayers and support during her years of illness. Special thanks to our churches, pastors, and medical staff. Thank you to Dr. Sykes, Dr. Yates and all their staff for the excellent care and kindness they provided.
