Martha Moore Abernethy
( May 10, 1920 - April 7, 2013 )

Martha Moore Abernethy, age 92, of Vale, died on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

 

Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Daniels Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 pm on Wednesday in the fellowship building.

 

Mrs. Abernethy was born May 10, 1920 in Forsyth County to the late Alverdo and Effie Dellinger Moore. She graduated from Lincolnton High School and attended business school. Mrs. Abernethy was employed for many years with the ASCS Office of Lincolnton and worked over 21 years with the former First National Bank and Carolina First National Bank of Lincolnton. She served as church treasurer, choir and taught Sunday school at Daniels Reformed Church. As a member of Daniels Lutheran Church of Lincolnton, she served on committees, circles and choir. She was a former member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Lincoln County Historical Assoc., and Lincoln County Home Extension Service. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and received first place honors in state and local awards in home extension areas and for her achievements in seamstress design.  Martha and her late husband of 68 years, Robert F. Abernethy, Sr., loved to fellowship with neighbors and enjoyed traveling.

 

She is survived by a son, Robert F. Abernethy, Jr. and wife Betty of Rolesville; a daughter, Kathryn A. Wise and husband Dr. Robert Wise of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Vann Abernethy of Rolesville, Malinda Gantt and husband Geety of Lincolnton, Dr. Neil Abernethy of Seattle, WA, Billy Perry of Rolesville, and Rev. Rob Wise and wife Katie of Lincolnton; three great-grandchildren, Grace Gantt of Lincolnton and Kenton and Thomas Abernethy of Rolesville; a sister, Kathryn M. Alexander of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephew.
