Robert Leslie Parleir
( April 5, 1929 - March 23, 2013 )

Mr. Robert Leslie Parleir, age 83 of Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC died March 23, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice House in Newton, NC. Mr. Parleir was born April 5, 1929 in Catawba County, son of the late William Lesley and Rose Mae Travis Parleir. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Allen Parleir and James Phillip Parleir.

 

Mr. Parleir graduated from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX and worked for Chance Vought Aircraft in TX until he moved back to NC in 1959 after which he worked for Douglas Aircraft until they left Charlotte. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC in 1991.

 

Survivors include his beloved wife of 39 years, Nancy Wellborn Parleir; two daughters, Linda P. Singletary (Glenn), Concord: Carol P. Austin, Maiden; one son, John L. Parleir, Havelock; and one adopted son, Mykel R. Parleir, Matthews; four grandchildren, Robert Matthew Parleir, Stephanie P. Akers; Kaylena P. Wolfe; and Krystal Austin; five great grandchildren, Danielle; C.J.; Madison; Mary & Isabella; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Bob and Nancy loved animals and adopted two kitties, Heidi and Tatiana who will miss him greatly.


He and Nancy were flying & RV’ing enthusiasts and traveled the US and Canada in their Cessna-206 for years and then by RV after retirement. He was an accomplished IFR pilot and flying was his passion. Bob had a beautiful smile and personality – he never met a stranger. He was loved by all who met him. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also, he was a big sports fan – basketball, football & racing. When he moved back from Texas he became an ardent follower of the Tarheels!

 

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Daniels Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 pm at Daniels Lutheran Church prior the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daniels Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3170 Reepsville Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092. The family appreciates the love and care shown by the staff at Catawba Regional Hospice House.
