Obituaries

Mr. Mitchell “Mickey” Rhyne Blanton, age 67 of 3627 Startown Road in Maiden died on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. 

His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan McCoy officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.  At all other times the family will be at the home of his mother-in-law, Rosa Childers Weaver, 56 South Hildebran Avenue in Newton.

Mr. Blanton was born on June 28, 1945 in Cleveland County, NC and was the son of the late CR and Alice Green Blanton.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Blanton was retired from the furniture industry.  He loved watching sports, especially the Panthers and Tar Heels.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Elaine Childers Blanton of the home; one daughter Michelle B. Sigmon and husband Gary of Lawndale; one brother, Bobby W. Blanton, Sr. and wife Ann of Lincolnton; one nephew Bobby W. Blanton, Jr. of Lincolnton; one niece, Charity Kijesky of Lincolnton; great niece, Cody Blanton of Lincolnton; mother-in-law, Rosa Childers Weaver of Newton.
