Obituaries

Mr. George Henry “Cricket” Powell, age 82, of 147 Hillside Drive in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Wes Brown officiating.   The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 pm on Friday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell was born June 14, 1930 in Martinsville, VA to the late Gid Owen Powell, Sr. and Sallie Chandler Powell.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Powell and a son, Reggie Powell.  Mr. Powell worked as a supervisor in textiles and as a security guard at Timken. 

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Inman Powell of the home; two sons, Steve Powell and wife Elizabeth, Joey Powell and wife Patricia, all of Lincolnton; a step-daughter, Mary Ruth Black and husband Mike of Denver; one brother, Buck Powell of Martinsville, VA; one sister, June Wehunt of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and his loving pet, GiGi.
