Jack S. Moore, Sr.

Jack Stiles Moore, Sr., who grew up in the Long Island area of Catawba County, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in Jacksonville. The youngest of five children, Jack was born July 31, 1922, to Alda Stiles Moore and Robert Gordon Moore, Sr. After high school, Mr. Moore attended Lenoir-Rhyne College for two years before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served two years in England and after his tour ended, he returned to Lenoir-Rhyne and graduated in the class of 1947. It was at Lenoir-Rhyne where he met his future wife, Minta Carpenter, and they married in 1949 in Lincolnton. Mr. Moore enjoyed watching sports on television and following his favorite teams. He also found pleasure tending flowers, doing yard work and working on projects around the home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minta C. Moore; one sister, Catherine M. Horne; and two brothers, Robert G. Moore, Jr. and Daniel R. Moore. Those left to cherish his memory include his son and caregiver, Jack S. Moore, Jr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy M. and Tommy Reynolds of Greer, SC; three grandchildren, Jessica, Katie and Will; a sister, Virginia M. Coley of Conover, and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 22, at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton with the Reverend Ted R. Bost, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. Following the funeral, Mr. Moore will be laid to rest beside his wife in the cemetery at Daniel’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnton.
