Hubert Houser Peeler
( November 15, 1927 - November 10, 2012 )

Mr. Hubert Houser Peeler, age 84, of 478 Owls Den Road, Lincolnton died Saturday, November 10, 2012.

 

His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at Gainsville Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Rice officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Monday at Gainsville Baptist Church.

 

Born to the late George Murphy Peeler and Lila Mae House Peeler, Hubert was raised on the family farm in western Lincoln County and graduated from North Brook High School in Vale, after which he enlisted in the US Army, serving near the end of WWII.  Inheriting it from his father, his lifelong occupation was that of serving as the sole proprietor of Peeler Fertilizer and Seed Company, from which he retired in 1985.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, and wide-ranging travels. After extensive travels, Hubert and his beloved Carolyn spent each winter for about 20 years in Homestead, Florida, on the edge of Lake Okeechobee, where Hubert enjoyed fishing.

 

He was an active member of Gainesville Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.  Married in 1946 to the late Nina Cline Peeler, he was predeceased by her in 1973 after a prolonged illness and also predeceased by a son, George Cletus Peeler (1956-1960).  He was then remarried in December 1975, to Carolyn Helton Peeler, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by his sister Bobbie Cherry Robbins and a brother, Jim Peeler.

 

He is further survived by: son, Dr. Ronald Hubert Peeler, MD and wife Paige Amber Caldwell Peeler of Davidson, NC: son, Gary Lynn and wife Cindy of Denver, NC; daughters, Teresa Lynn, Debbie Lynn Apjohn and husband Jeff of Lincolnton, Tana Lynn Ables and husband Tom of Wilmington, NC and 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

 

He was greatly loved and will be forever missed by his large family and many friends.
