Obituaries

Dr. George Lester Darrow, age 58 of Denver, NC died Thursday, June 7, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Vesuvius Vineyards, 6173 Vesuvius Furnace Road in Iron Station, NC. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.

Dr. Darrow was born October 19, 1953 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Henry Darrow. He was a father first, and a friend to many.  He had a gift for helping those in need, and so dedicated his life to emergency medicine at CMC-Lincoln. Dr. Darrow earned his medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.   He was a writer and reader, a lover of the open road, Harley's, back porches, big trucks, and the great outdoors.  He leaves a legacy of compassion and hope for the underdog.

Survivors include his three daughters; Hannah McAlister Darrow, Hilary Burk Darrow and Sarah Frances Darrow all of Charlotte, NC; his mother, Carolyn Dykes Darrow of Statesville, NC; three bothers, John David Darrow, James Daniel Darrow and Peter Nathaniel Darrow all of North Hampton, New Brunswick Canada; and sister, Saralee D. Trimble of San Antonio, Texas.
