Evelyn Hoover Lackey, age 78, of the Brian Center, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 pm prior to the service in the North Wing of the church.

Mrs. Lackey was born November 7, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Pinkney Austin and Ila Reep Hoover.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Harold Lackey, Sr.  Mrs. Lackey attended Union High School, was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and was very active in the Democratic Party.  She enjoyed working for the Clerk of Court’s office in Lincolnton in the 70’s. 

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Lackey Moore and husband Dennis of Terrell; a son, Don Lackey, Jr. of Hickory; a brother, Bill Hoover of Vale; a sister, Doris Eaker and husband Lester of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Lela Lynn Lackey and husband Hugh Heldenbrand, Hershel Lackey, Elijah Lackey and wife Gina, Joseph Lackey, and Austin Moore; and a great-grandson, Ronald Harold Heldenbrand.  “Granny” loved her grandchildren dearly.
