David Smith Heafner
( June 28, 1958 - April 8, 2012 )

On Easter Sunday, April 08, 2012, David went to his heavenly home. Mr. Heafner was born June 28, 1958, a native of Crouse, NC.   His family rejoices that he got to spend Easter afternoon with his mother, Margie Heafner, and brother-in-law, Larry Gilbert, along with numerous beloved aunts and uncles who predeceased him.

David was a proud alumnus of West Lincoln High School.  He spent his entire adult life serving Lincoln County through his work at the Lincoln County Communications Center, the Lincoln County Lifesaving Crew, Lincoln County EMS, Lincolnton Fire Department, and Drum’s Funeral Home.  Perhaps his greatest service to the community was in keeping us all well fed through his business, Home Place Restaurant and Catering Service.

Recently David proudly served on the Board of Directors of Crouse and Howard’s Creek Volunteer Fire Departments.  Along with serving the community, David had a deep love for Tar Heel basketball and the Democratic Party.  When not serving the community, David could be found in the “bottoms” tending the land he loved with his dog Tally.

David is survived by his wife Kathy Petty Heafner, children, Maggie Heafner of Hickory, NC and Clay Heafner of Martin, Tennessee; father, Gene Heafner of Crouse; one sister Vicky Gilbert of Lincolnton; two brothers, Chris Heafner and wife, Pat; Willie Heafner and wife, Debbie, both of Crouse; one niece, Julie Heafner Lovett; four nephews, Matthew Gilbert, Luke Heafner, Charlie Heafner, Logan Heafner; a

great niece, LuAnn Lovett and great nephew, Lawson Lovett.

A Celebration of Life will be held April 11 at 11:00 am at Crouse UMC, with the Rev. Dr. Susan Heafner-Heun and the Rev. Harvey Gates officiating.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Warlick Funeral Home.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 87, c/o Crouse United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 43, Crouse, NC  28033 or Blazin’ Trails Cowboy Church, c/o Rev. Harvey Gates, 2515 Gates Road, Lincolnton, NC  28092.
