Lawrence John "Larry" Devenney
( December 8, 1931 - February 4, 2012 )

 

Mr. Lawrence John “Larry” Devenney, age 80 of 1267 Worthington Place in Lincolnton, died on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

 

His funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Powell and Rev. Jim Reeves officiating.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Devenney was born December 8, 1931 in Camden, NJ to the late Elmer and Julia Kolb Devenney.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Land and a brother, Robert Devenney. Mr. Devenney served in the United States Army and then later worked as a sales account representative. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Zia Devenney of the home; two sons, Bruce L. Devenney and wife Jennifer of Gastonia, and Kevin L. Devenney and wife Sherry of Monroe; two daughters, Cheryl E. Riley and husband Steve of the British Virgin Islands, and Maureen E. Freeman and husband Doug of Lincolnton; one brother, Elmer T. Devenney, Jr. of Berlin, NJ; two sisters, Julia St. Maur of Laurel Springs, NJ, and Helen Gutherman of Florida; five grandchildren, Cara Sanders and husband Michael of Ft. Mill, SC, Karlie Devenney and Krista Devenney, both of Monroe, NC, and Zachary Freeman of Lincolnton.
