Obituaries

Mr. Derek Austin Cornelius, age 31 of 323 E. Dixon Street in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, January 12, 2012.

His funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Buettner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Harry Caldwell and Rev. Andy Royals officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Cornelius was born March 7, 1980 in Gaston County to Ricky Wrenn Cornelius and Cynthia Crump Grant.  He was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Austin Cornelius, a paternal grandmother, Lucille Barnhardt, maternal grandfather, Bill Crump, and step-grandfather, Howard Setzer.  Mr. Cornelius worked as a delivery driver. 

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ricky and Dawn Cornelius of Lincolnton; mother, Cindy Grant of Lincolnton; children, Austin Cornelius, Caleb Cornelius, Elizabeth Cornelius, Felicity Cornelius, and Brennan Cornelius; sister, Crystal Cornelius of Newton; maternal grandmother, Charlotte Setzer of Lincolnton; and step-grandmother, Gaye Temple of Cherryville.
